Greeters

The Greeters of Al Bedoo Shrine is a uniformed unit. The official uniform is red blazer, black slacks, white gloves and the red fez.

Meetings are held the 2nd Thursday of the month in the Shrine Temple Lodge Room, usually together with the wives including a hosted social hour and potluck dinner.

The Greeters main purpose is to promote the welfare and goodwill of Shrinedom in general and Al Bedoo in particular; to serve the Potentate as his representative at Shrine functions; to greet and make welcome visitors and Al Bedoo Nobles and their Ladies. Even though we are not a marching unit, we own and maintain a 1969 Cadillac convertible for use in as many parades as possible and is the official transportation of the Potentate in these parades.

The Greeters conduct the annual Thanksgiving dinner meeting for all the ladies of Al Bedoo with Turkey Bingo. They supply approximately 20 frozen turkeys for the ladies to play bingo, while the Stated Meeting is having “step up” night. They also have several parties during the year. They wind up the year with their annual Christmas party, in December.

The advantages to becoming a Greeter are the friendships you develop and the camaraderie within the unit. Our ladies enjoy the socializing at the potluck dinner meetings and some of them join us in performing our circus duties, onion sales and other functions.
